Chile captain signs for Barcelona

Claudio-Bravo

The transfer of Chile international goalkeeper Claudio Bravo has been confirmed this afternoon with an agreement formally announced by receiving club FC Barcelona.

Bravo, 31, has spent eight seasons playing for Spanish outfit Real Sociedad and will join the La Liga giant on a four year deal.

The move will see the Chilean as one of five new signings headed for Camp Nou for the start of the 2014/2015 season, and he will be one of two new goalkeepers.

Bravo will share his in-goal duties with 22-year-old German stopper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who has signed to Barcelona from Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach.

The player, who is captain of the Chile national team and currently away on World Cup service in Brazil, will be part of an all-star Barca team which features some of the world’s biggest football stars – Argentinian striker Lional Messi and Brazilian wonderkid Neymar.

The Catalan club, who have been a dominant trophy-winning side in the Spanish league for several years, finished the 2013/2014 season in second place behind Atletico Madrid and having added just one piece of silverware to their cabinet – the Spanish Supercup.

With a handful of new signings they will be looking to improve their standing next season and fighting hard to get back on top as La Liga champions.
