Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin is determined to imitate the successes of Patrick Viera, reports the Daily Mail.

Coquelin has been making an impression on Gunners boss Arsene Wenger after making the most of a surprising recall to Arsenal’s starting team earlier in the season.

The 23-year-old was spending his time on loan at Championship side Charlton Athletic and was called back to the Emirates as a result of a long list of injuries, with the opportunity one to make the most of to prove his worth.

And now the defensive midfielder is being compared to Gunners great Patrick Viera and Coquelin will be determined to show his ability on the pitch and live a career similar to that of his fellow countryman.

“I’m not going to say to you I am (the new Viera), obviously I want to be but I think it’s down to the performance,” Coquelin told BT Sport.

“I always had confidence in myself and belief in myself – I just needed the chance. I got the chance because other people got injured and tried to grab it with both hands and do as well as I could.

“The way I think is that I’m just trying to do what’s best for the team.”

Arsenal are currently third in the Barclays Premier League having accumulated 60 points, one point behind title challengers Manchester City in second.
