Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that he was worried that Alexis Sanchez would sign for Liverpool last summer.

Alexis Sanchez has been a revelation for Arsenal this season. The Chilean forward has proved that you don’t always need a season to adapt to the Premier League and has really hit the ground running. He’s scored an impressive 19 goals for Arsenal so far in his first season at the club.

Sanchez has been one of the bright lights of this year’s Premier League campaign, and his creativity coupled with his tireless work rate has made him an instant favourite at the Emirates.

However, Arsene Wenger has revealed it nearly wasn’t the case – it could have been the terraces at Anfield that sang his name. Wenger was unsure whether he’d get his man and has made it clear the reason was Luis Suarez.

With Liverpool and Barcelona already in negotiations over Suarez, Arsene was expecting Sanchez to be used as part of the deal after Liverpool had made their interest in the player clear.

While Arsene may be surprised Sanchez decided to keep himself out of any deal to come to Arsenal, he certainly won’t think about it too much. He’s made it very clear he’s delighted with his new star and what was Liverpool’s loss was certainly Arsenal’s gain.
