Manchester United are planning an £11m bid for Lille defender Simon Kjaer, according to the Express.

Kjaer has been in impressive form this season and has gained interest from a number of top European clubs, namely Juventus, Monaco and Zenit St. Petersburg.

However, reports in Denmark are now suggesting that United boss Louis van Gaal has made the Danish international a transfer must this summer.

Such a move for Kjaer would see him become the most expensive Danish player, taking over Christian Eriksen, who joined Tottenham Hotspur in 2013 from Dutch side Ajax.

Kjaer has openly admitted in the past that he would love to play in the Premier League, discussing his support for United’s bitter rivals Liverpool.

Van Gaal’s desire to sign the central defender could see Kjaer partner Mats Hummels, who has also been made indicated as a potential summer signing.

United are currently battling for a Champions League place in the Premier League and Van Gaal is preparing for such a campaign next season.
