Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is testing Gunners fans with him admitting that Abou Diaby could receive a new contract, reports the Mirror.

Diaby has only made 22 appearances in the past four seasons, but has nevertheless stayed on the Arsenal payroll and has been hinted to continue to do so.

“I had a chat with him and told him how I can envisage the future,” said Wenger.

“He has to make a decision. Of course he understands completely that he has to perform and to show that he can be present on a consistent way.

“I will see where we go from there. I wouldn’t like to go into details, we have to meet again to see where we go from what I told him.”

The 28-year-old has struggled since a career threatening ankle injury while he also suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury and this season has seen a series of aborted comebacks.

Arsenal are currently third in the Barclays Premier League having accumulated 60 points, one point behind title challengers Manchester City in second.
