Inter step up plans for Premier League raid

Manchester City v Sunderland - Premier League

Inter Milan have reportedly ramped up their attempts to land Manchester City striker Stevan Jovetic.

According to Tutto Mercato Web, the San Siro giants have not given up on luring the ex-Fiorentina hitman back to Serie A despite receiving little or no encouragement from the Premier League champions.

The report claims the major stumbling block is City’s insistence that they will not farm him out on loan, and Inter’s failure to raise the necessary funds to buy him on a permanent basis, 12 months after his £22million departure from Florence.

However, there could be light at the end of the tunnel if Inter cash in on one of their most valuable players in order to fund a move for the Montenegro international.

Midfield man Fredy Guarin could be sacrificed, as could schemer Ricardo Alvarez, but if both men remain at the club Inter will struggle to sign Jovetic.

They also face competition from rivals Roma who, according to Leggo, are also on the 24-year-old’s trail.
Roma hope to capitalise on City’s interest in their highly-rated defender, Mehdi Benatia, by lining up a swap deal which would also see the Blues part with a significant sum of money.

Jovetic still has two years left on his contract at the Etihad Stadium.
