Raheem Sterling has made it very clear that his rejection of a huge contract at Liverpool has nothing to do with the money.

There has been much speculation recently about the future of Raheem Sterling, but there seems to be a difference of opinion between the player and his manager at Anfield.

Brendan Rogers has today said that the young England starlet ‘is going nowhere’ this summer, and will be a Liverpool player next summer. But Liverpool fans, don’t be too quick to take a big sigh of relief.

The player himself has strongly suggested a summer exit from Anfield. After he rejected a lucrative contract offer at Liverpool many accused Sterling of being greedy and pushing for a big-money move. The player himself has insisted it has nothing to do with the money and everything to do with trophies.

Few would disagree that Sterling has a very bright future, but if he stays at Liverpool would trophies feature in that future? Possibly. By rejecting Liverpool’s contract offer, Sterling has made it clear that he’s willing to move away from Anfield if the right club comes in for in. He’s left his options open but at his age, is that the right decision?

Brendan Rogers is a brilliant coach and works exceptionally well with young players. The likes of Jordan Henderson was being written off last season, but under Rogers he looks a player transformed and is now an England starter and Liverpool favourite. Sterling himself was given his opportunity under Rogers and has gone from strength-to strength.

While he may not win a trophy next season if he stays a Liverpool, he will certainly develop as a player under Rogers in a team that has been built around younger talent and attacking energy.

It’s impossible to know if he’ll win trohpies at Liverpool but one thing is for certain now he’s rejected Liverpool’s offer, putting talks on hold until the summer – other clubs will make offers.

The likes of Real Madrid, Manchester City and even Arsenal may well test the players resolve this summer and while he is more likely to win trophies at these clubs, is it a decision he may regret?
