Villarreal striker Luciano Vietto has spoken of his desire to play alongside Barcelona’s Lionel Messi.

Argentine Vietto has somewhat of a breakthrough season in La Liga, having joined Villarreal last summer from Argentine side Racing Club.

He has since scored 20 goals in all competitions and has helped the Spanish side to a Europa League last-16 place.

His form has caught the attention of potential suitors Liverpool, who are extremely keen and have labelled him as their number one target this summer.

“Everybody dreams of being able to play alongside Messi,” the young forward told Ole. “It would be a dream come true, of course …

“But, genuinely, the transfer speculation is something that I take in my stride. I’m just concentrating on Villarreal.

“I use all of these rumours as motivation to keep pushing myself to improve. I have no doubt that if I keep doing well everything will come in its own time.”

Vietto, then went on to discuss that swapping shirts with Messi this season has been his highlight thus far.

“It was something unique,” he added. “I had the chance to play against him and to get to know him off the pitch as well.

“He is a wonderful person and he made a great gesture, which was giving me his shirt.

“It’s a memory that will stay with me for the rest of my life.”
