Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson denies contract rift claims

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has insisted that he wants his contract negotiations to end soon as he sets his sights on playing at Anfield for many years.

The 24-year-old is largely tipped to replace Steven Gerrard as club captain next season but doubts over his future at the club continue with links to a number of top European clubs, including La Liga leaders Barcelona.

Henderson’s current deal will expire next summer and negotiations continue to rumble on over an extension, but the midfielder has insisted that he wants to remain with the Reds.

“It’s definitely not an issue,” he told reporters when asked about negotiations. “I love playing football for Liverpool and I want to be there for many years.

“In terms of my contract, I think everybody else will make a big deal of it. But, for me it’s just letting my agent and the club talk, and whenever it gets sorted it gets sorted.

“All I want to do is my best for club and country. It’s definitely not a distraction. For me playing football is all I’ve ever wanted to do and contracts and stuff can be sorted out by clubs and agents.

“Hopefully this can get done soon. All I want to do is concentrate on my football and not let this get in the way.”
