Barcelona’s Xavi Hernandez to join Al Sadd

Youcef Dahmani takes a brief look at Xavi Hernandez’s new role with Al Sadd, leaving behind an amazing history with Barcelona.

Xavi will be earning €10m a season over the next three years, with an extra year as an option. As well as being given a role as adviser of the Aspire Academy.

Xavi Hernández is known till this date to be a legend for both club and country. However at the age of 35, he has decided that it is time to move on in his last years as a footballer. The midfielder will play next season for Al Sadd who are currently second in the Qatar’s Stars League.

Xavi has played for the first team in the last 16 seasons and is reaching close to his 500th game with the Catalan giants, making him the player with the most games played in the history of FC Barcelona.

The midfielder has been given a first team role, but has also been assigned to help out in the Aspire Academy. Where he will be training the countries future players who will compete in the Qatar World Cup in 2022.

Xavi has had other offers for a move to the MLS, however his mind is set in Qatar. The player announced that he will be studying towards his coaching badges while in Qatar. Xavi will announce his final decision at the end of the season.
