La Liga president Javier Tebas has claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo’s celebration after his goal in Sunday’s El Clasico should see him receive a ban.

The Real Madrid forward scored and then taunted the Camp Nou crowd with a gesture calling for them to calm down, though his celebrations were cut short when Luis Suarez scored the winner.

LFP chief Tebas believes that players should not taunt fans of the opposition in that style and believes the former Manchester United man should now receive a ban for his actions.

“We have to be careful with provocative gestures by a player when he scores a goal or with any other provocation or conduct that could incite violence among spectators,” Tebas told reporters.

“It must be sanctioned, from a fine up to a suspension. We will look into it.”

Adding to further debate in Spanish football, Tebas backed Barcelona’s bid to have the Copa del Rey final at the Santiago Bernabeu, which they will compete with Athletic Bilbao.

“I wish it were the Bernabeu,” he added. “However, it is the decision of the club and we must respect their decision not to allow it, for whatever reason.”
