Valencia will not be making a summer bid for Manchester United’s Juan Mata, after seeing his recent return to form make a move virtually ‘impossible’.

The Spanish midfielder joined United in January 2014 but had failed to live up to the expectations on his shoulders which came following consistent performances for Valencia, Chelsea and the Spanish national side over recent years.

Reports linking Mata with an exit were heavy in the summer of 2014 with the likes of Paris Saint Germain, Atletico Madrid and former club Valencia all keen.

And, the latter have maintained their interest through to the New Year, having gone as far as to enquire about his availability.

United have been less than co-operative in their response to the Spanish side and have now told them that any bids will be rejected after he scored three goals in his last two games, two of which came against rivals Liverpool last weekend.
