Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has not given up hope of signing Barcelona defender Dani Alves, who is out of contract this summer.

The Brazilian defender will see his current deal at the Camp Nou expire this summer but a new deal is now likely after his agent and former wife Dinorah Santa Ana sat down with the club to discuss new terms.

Links to a number of top European clubs, including Paris Saint Germain have been maintained and it was understood that he was close to joining the Ligue 1 club earlier this month.

However, despite Alves’ desire to remain with the Catalan club; Manchester United boss Van Gaal is said to be willing to offer any contract type to the Brazilian to join the Premier League outfit.

Van Gaal has struggled to find a consistent right-back this season and is thought to be open to the idea of selling Rafael da Silva.

Alves has recently confirmed that his future will not be discussed until after the Spanish season ends.
