Manchester United and Manchester City have entered the race to sign Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi.

Scouts from the Old Trafford side were sent to Italy at the weekend to watch the former Barcelona striker in action as his Inter Milan side lost 1-0 to Sampdoria.

And, according to London Evening Standard, both Louis van Gaal’s side and Man City are now extremely keen to pursue a summer move.

Chelsea have been leading the list of interested clubs in Icardi, who has scored 17 goals in 37 games this season, whilst Atletico Madrid have also been linked.

The player is currently in negotiations with Inter about extending his stay at the San Siro, although talks are said to have stalled.

The Argentine is currently keen to agree a £90,000-a-week contract to remain at the San Siro.
