Arsenal have received bad news in their hopes of signing Inter Milan midfielder Mateo Kovacic, as the midfielder is now keen to remain with the Italian club.

The 20-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to a number of European clubs in recent times with Liverpool and Manchester United linked from the Premier League.

The latter had been monitoring the situation of the attacking midfielder for some-time after his role in the Inter side became questioned last season, but it was reported last week that Arsenal had joined the race and had gone as far to prepare a summer bid of £20m.

The Croatian international is seen as a top transfer target for Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, who is keen to rebuild certain areas of his side after exiting the Champions League last Tuesday evening.

However, Nikky Vuksan, the midfielder’s agent has told FCInterNews: “He has recently renewed his contract, two months ago, and nothing has changed in that sense.

“He has signed a five-year renewal, he believes in his Inter future. If he wasn’t happy in Milan he wouldn’t have extended his contract. I haven’t spoken to anyone, he has renewed with Inter. He’s an Inter player and will continue to be so.”
