Inter fight for United target

Cerci

Inter Milan are ready to battle it out for Manchester United target Alessio Cerci, according to fresh reports in the Italian media.

Quotidiano Sportivo
claims that the San Siro giants are ready to test Torino’s resolve to keep hold of the coveted 26-year-old, with owner Erick Thohir anxious to significantly strengthen a squad which under-achieved last term.

Inter finished the 2013-14 campaign in fifth position after several bouts of inconsistent form, failing to match the ambitions of the hierarchy.

A source close to Old Trafford told Football Express News that Italy international Cerci remains on their radar, although the chance to remain in his homeland could prove a decisive factor when he sits down to decide his future.

Cerci is currently on World Cup duty with his national side, and could play a pivotal part in tonight’s crucial showdown with Uruguay.

The versatile attacker, who can operate out wide on both flanks or through the middle as a supporting striker, scored 13 goals in 37 appearances for Torino last season.

He has little more than a year remaining on his current contract, sparking hope among his suitors that a relatively cut-price deal can be thrashed out during the summer transfer window for one of the hottest properties in European football.
