Gomis goal seals Swans win over Aston Villa

A late goal by Bafetimbi Gomis saw Swansea City claim all three points today at Villa Park.

A number of early attempts on goal for the Swans were blocked and denied, with Bafetimbi Gomis, who returned for his second game since his collapse at White Hart Lane earlier this month, having a number of attempts on to end his goal drought.

The 23rd minute saw an early Villa substitution, with on-loan midfielder Tom Cleverley being replaced, following an injury, by Carlos Sanchez.

With both teams having opportunities to score, but no on finding the back of the net, the first half ended 0-0.

The 52nd minute saw Swansea’s Gylfi Siggurdsson fouled by Cieran Clark and winning a free kick in the Swansea half. His free kick was saved.

Villa had plenty of chances in the second half with shots from Gabriel Agbonglahor and Jores Okore having their shots saved.

Bafetimbi Gomis, desperate to score for Swansea, managed to find the back of the net in the 86th minute, after his assist from Jefferson Montero was converted with his right-foot.

Villa failed to find an equalizer, and the game ended 1-0.

Swansea finish the day at 8th, with 43 points, and Aston Villa are in 16th place, three points off relegation.
