Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has questioned his side’s second half performance against Newcastle United.

The French striker has been in impressive form of late for the Gunners, scoring in their midweek Champions League game against Monaco and he bagged a double in the 2-1 win over Newcastle at St. James Park on Saturday.

However, following the game, Giroud felt the need to discuss his side’s second half performance, a showing which has left many fans and media further add to criticism after they exited Europe’s top competition on Tuesday evening.

“We started well, on the front foot, we put the pace we wanted to into the game. The problem in the second half was we didn’t play, I don’t know why. We knew we needed a third goal but they put us under pressure and did well to come back,” BBC Sport quotes him as saying.

“It was a tough game but it is a really important win. Even though we are disappointed with the Champions League exit, we want to fight on until the end of the season.”

The result leaves Arsenal in third place and well on course to qualify for the Champions League.
