Atletico coach confirms interest in Man United and Arsenal target

Atletico Madrid coach Oscar Ortega has confirmed the club are interested in signing Paris Saint Germain striker Edinson Cavani.

Cavani, who is widely tipped to replace Radamel Falcao at Manchester United next season has emerged as a transfer target for Arsene Wenger, with the French boss a keen admirer of his performances for PSG and the Uruguayan national side.

The 28-year-old has struggled to adapt to life with the Parisien side, having battled with the clubs owners and boss Laurent Blanc over his role at the club and preferred position.

Reports in Spanish press claim that Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is ready to sell Mario Mandzukic in order to fund a move for Cavani this summer and has enlisted the help of Diego Godin, an international team-mate of Cavani to tempt the striker in a move to the Vicente Calderon.

And, that has been confirmed after Ortega, a member of Diego Simeone’s coaching staff, told Goal.com: “Yes, there is [interest] and I would love to be able to sign him. For us, and for him, too.”
