Sergio Ramos is set to return to action for Real Madrid after time out with injury.

After setting the world alight in the early parts of the season Real Madrid were tipped to win every competition they entered. How things have changed in the last month.

The Spanish side who boast the word class talent of Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and Christiano Ronaldo who are also known as ‘BBC’ have struggled of late at home (domestically) and even away (Europe).

Madrid who are the most successful team in Champions League history with 10 titles, only just squeezed through against German side Schalke- who beat the Champions League holders on the night at the Santiago Bernabeau – but the Spanish’s side win in Germany made all the difference.

All though Real did win, their is high amount of discontent circulating around the Spanish capital in the Real Madrid half of the city at least. Such criticism of a team that is just one point off top spot in La Liga is hard it could be argued- but such is the demand of such supporters.

With a team of such superstars and the success of last year, the expectations were naturally going to be high. Key players such as Gareth Bale haven’t been quite on top form – and even Christiano Ronaldo himself after winning the Ballon D’Or hasn’t quite been his ‘goal machine self – but the main reason I feel for any kind of Real slump is the absence of Sergio Ramos.

Ramos who has been an integral part of the this Real Madrid side ever since he signed from Sevilla all the way back in 2005. It’s the former Sevilla’s leadership abilities that Real Madrid have missed the most – but with the news that Sergio Ramos is back in action, this will no doubt be a big boost for Real boss Carl Ancelotti who has been under pressure in recent weeks.

Many observers do feel that it was no coincidence that Real Madrid’s form dipped when Sergio Ramos was out of action. With the El Classico on 21st March, Sergio Ramos couldn’t have timed his return from injury any better – but the Spaniard will have to be in top form because on top form Barcelona’s front three will take some stopping.
