Italians consider Eto’o and Jovetic

Serie A heavyweights Roma have reportedly set their sights on luring either outgoing Chelsea veteran Samuel Eto’o or Manchester City forward Stevan Jovetic to the capital this summer.

According to Italian source Leggo, the Giallorossi head coach Rudi Garcia has asked directors to fund a move for a high-profile hitman in order to strengthen his options in the final third of the pitch.

Eto’o will leave Stamford Bridge when his contract comes to an end next week, and the 33-year-old’s World Cup campaign with Cameroon came to an end last night in a 4-1 loss to hosts Brazil.

He was an inconsistent figure in west London but did produce a fine hat-trick in a crushing win against Manchester United earlier in the year.

Eto’o has experience of playing in Italy, having spent two years at Inter Milan.

Former Fiorentina star Jovetic is also a familiar face in Serie A circles and the report claims Roma could ask for him to be included in any deal which would take their defender Mehdi Benatia to the Etihad Stadium.

They are ready to capitalise on the Blues’ drive to buy a world class centre-half.

Jovetic eventually came through an injury-plagued first season in England to contribute to his side’s successful Premier League title run-in, but lingering concerns about his fitness record could convince City to part company with the Montenegro international if it means they can land Benatia.
