Louis van Gaal says that Manchester United will be his last job in management, but plans to leave the game having guided the English side to success.

The former Barcelona and Netherlands boss began coaching in 1986 and has been victorious in Netherlands, Spain, Germany, winning titles in each country.

The Dutch man is hoping to increase his impressive roll of honours with a title in England at Old Trafford, but insists United will be his last job.

“I am also old. This is my last job. For sure,” he told The Daily Telegraph. “I have to pay attention to my kids, my grandchildren but also to my wife. They deserve it. Now I cannot pay that attention. I was not at the birthday of my grandson for example. I don’t like it.”

Van Gaal was then drawn to comment on United’s current campaign, claiming it is a must to qualify for the Champions League.

“That’s our goal, yes, and it depends on how we end this season. We have to qualify for the Champions League and we have many tests next year.

“That also develops the level of your team, and of course how many players can come in to improve our selection.”
