Arsene Wenger has called for the away goals rule to be ended in the Champions League after Arsenal were knocked out by Monaco.

The Gunners won 2-0 at the Stade Louis II, but they exited the competition due to the away goal rule after a 3-1 first leg defeat against Monaco.

Wenger, who was visibly angry at the result following the result, has now called on UEFA to possibly look at a potential rule change.

“Maybe away goals should count after extra-time,” he told reporters. “The rule was created in the 1960s and the weight of the away goal is too great today.

“We have to move on. We know why we went out – it’s down to a dreadful defensive performance in the first leg.”
