Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that his side may be better playing in the Europa League after losing to Monaco on Tuesday evening.

Despite a 2-0 victory at Monaco’s Stade Louis II stadium, the Gunners exited the last-16 on the away goal rule, their fifth elimination at that stage in five years.

And, Wenger has accepted that the constant disappointment is hard to take, saying his side could be better playing Europa League football.

“Perhaps it would be better not to go out like this and make the Europa League – we would be more likely to win.

“The performance was good. It was a difficult task. They surprised us in the first game because subconsciously we were too sure of ourselves.

“In the second half, we lacked a bit of freshness. I am very disappointed to be knocked out, of course, but I will remember a lot of positives from this game.”
