Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey believes that his side were confident of beating Monaco and progressing to the Champions League quarter-final stage.

Arsene Wenger’s side won the second leg 2-0 at Stade Louis II but they missed out on progressing on the away goal rule.

And, Welsh midfielder Ramsey believes that his side believed that they could and would go past Monaco in the competition after four years previous exiting at the same stage.

Ramsey told BBC Sport:”I think so, we’ve always gone out to Bayern Munich and Barcelona at this stage.

“No disrespect to Monaco, we thought we’d have a good opportunity to qualify but we gave ourselves a tough test from the first leg. It’s nearly again, but it’s not enough.”
