Former Manchester United defender Denis Irwin believes that Luke Shaw will succeed at Old Trafford.
The 19-year-old moved to Old Trafford from Southampton last summer has failed to impress boss Louis van Gaal after some rather subdued performances.
Shaw arrived for a fee of £28m and has since faced heavy criticism from a number of fans and media pundits, but Irwin believes the England defender can become a success at the club and put his previous troubles behind him.
“I have no doubt he will be a great player for us in years to come,” Irwin told PA Sport. “Until he gets a run of games I don’t think you are going to see the quality Luke Shaw can bring to a side.
“When he gets that under his belt you will see the best of him. Hopefully he will stay injury-free for us for the rest of year and get a run of games.”
Shaw has started just 12 game this season.
