Jordan Henderson scored the winner as Liverpool beat Swansea City on Monday evening.

In a game that was crucial for Liverpool after Manchester United’s thumping 3-0 win over Tottenham on Sunday, the Reds started slowly. Not too much happened in the opening stages, a low shot from Adam Lallana was the only Liverpool threats on the Swansea City goal.

Swansea on the other hand looked fired up, a cross from Kyle Naughton was met by the head of Batefimbi Gomis which was cleared on the line by Martin Skrtel on 20 minutes. They had another good chance soon after, a good pass from Wayne Routledge gave Gomis another chance. He struck the ball from just outside the area, which took a plunging arm from Mignolet to beat the ball away from goal.

Neil Taylor then made a darting run into the box before playing it to Sigurdsson who made a superb turn before blazing the ball over the crossbar. Sigurdsson came close again a few minutes later, a curling shot from twenty five yards took a top class save from Mignolet to keep it out. Liverpool were struggling to find their feet in this game.

As the second half kicked off, it was clear Brendan Rodgers must have got right into his players during the break. The system had changed as well with Liverpool getting the ball to the danger men of Coutinho and Sterling more often.

The deadlock was broken on 68 minutes, the ball found it’s way to Henderson who whose shot ricocheted off the sliding Jordi Amat and looped into the net. On 76 minutes, Phillipe Coutinho picked the ball up from 25 yards and hit a curling shot and went just over the bar.

With ten minutes to go, Swansea through on the pacy Nathan Dyer in a last ditch attempt to get a late equaliser and snatch a point. However, it wasn’t to be and Liverpool move closer to the top four and keep the pressure on Manchester United.
