Diego Costa header regains his position as Premier League’s top scorer

Alongside his side’s title aspirations Diego Costa is continuing his own personal battle for the Golden Boot, with rivals Sergio Agüero and England duo Harry Kane and Charlie Austin closely behind.

His goal against Southampton yesterday was his 18th of the season, yet surprisingly his first in the league since a brace in January against Swansea.

Although a recent goal drought in all competitions has seen the Chelsea forward in the spotlight, he answered his critics with some good movement in the box and a well-taken header.

You feel his goal-scoring form will be crucial to Chelsea getting over the line, however he will be desperate for personal glory in his first season in the English game.

Closest rival Agüero similarly has struggled of late in front of goal, with only three goals in the league since the turn of the year.

The Argentinian forward is now equal with his 17-league goals tally from last year, although he achieved that in only 23 matches.

English hopefuls Kane and Austin have been the in-form forwards in the league in recent months, with the Tottenham man gaining his consecutive Barclays Player of the Month award for February.

An outside bet for one of the English forwards to claim the crown may be worth the punt, although Kevin Phillips was the last Englishman to be top scorer back in the 1999/2000 season with his 30 league goals for Sunderland.

However Costa and Agüero are rightly the bookies favorites and will be expected to find form during the crucial part of the season, if either striker hits phenomenal levels of performance that may just be enough to push either Chelsea or Manchester City to the Premier League crown.
