Celtic midfielder Kris Commons has praised captain Scott Brown following their Scottish League Cup final win over Dundee United.

Brown has been under heavy criticism in recent weeks after videos emerged of being drunk in Edinburgh, just days before his side’s final against Jackie McNamara’s Dundee United.

However, the midfielder returned to action and put in a sterling performance to help Ronny Deila’s side win their first trophy of the season.

And, he has been heavily praised by fellow midfielder and goalscorer on the day, Commons.

“Its’ the first time I’ve got my hands on this trophy in my time at Celtic,” Commons told BBC Sport.

“Once that goal went in it settled our nerves and we dominated the game.

“When you’ve got a captain like Scott [Brown], he’s a natural leader and natural winner. He’s a big, big character in our dressing room as far as team spirit goes. It’s been magic from day one here.”
