Sunderland boss Gus Poyet says he’s to blame for Villa defeat

Gus Poyet has been put under scrutiny, as his side lost 4-0 against fellow strugglers Aston Villa, on Saturday.

However, he says he perfectly understands the fans reaction: “I am responsible. I am one of the few in football nowadays, I am honest. “When things go right I tell you I am responsible and when things go wrong I tell you I am responsible.”

Goals came from both Christian Benteke and Gabriel Agbonlahor within the first half. Agbonlahor and Benteke both scored their first goals within 20 minutes of the match beginning. Agbonlahor scoring Villa’s third on the 37th minute, while Benteke headed in the fourth, just before the interval.

The Sunderland fans made their frustration very clear, as thousands made a sharp exist out of the Stadium of Light. An army of stewards held the Black Cat supporters back, as they tried to reach for the Sunderland manager in the dugout. When the full time whistle was blown, more than half of the supporters had already left the stadium.

Sunderland are the only Premier League side to have only scored twice since the season started. This result has now left Sunderland one point above the relegation zone. The result has further put doubts on Poyet’s return to the club next season.

Sunderland face West Ham on Easter Saturday.
