Sublime Messi overtakes Ronaldo in race for Golden Shoe

Lionel Messi’s double for Barcelona in their 2-0 win over Elche on Saturday afternoon saw him move ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo in the race for the European Golden Shoe.

Messi has started 2015 in superb form and added his 31st and 32nd goals of the La Liga season in the win at the Estadio Municipal de Ipurua; a victory which sees Barca go four points ahead of rivals Real Madrid at the top of he table.

Messi has now scored an incredible 17 goals in 2015, whilst rival Ronaldo has only managed to net five, despite being ahead of the Argentine by 13 goals in November.

Ronaldo is the current joint-holder of the European Golden Shoe, together with Luis Suarez.

Barcelona star Messi has 43 goals in all competitions this season from 39 games.
