Gareth Bale is set to leave Real Madrid this summer after the club became concerned by his efforts to adapt to life at the club and his poor performances on the field.

Reports in Spanish press on Saturday morning, mainly Madrid based Marca, claim that a huge number of Madrid players and officials are now angry at the Welshman’s attitude and have no choice but to make him available for transfer this summer.

The £85m winger has been jeered on a number of occasions this season by Madrid fans, who once again voiced their disapproval during the 4-3 defeat to Schalke on Tuesday night in the Champions League.

Despite, scoring the winning goal in the Copa del Rey final and a goal in the Champions League final last season, Bale is now expected to entice the likes of Manchester United in to a summer move.

Bale, without a goal or an assist in eight matches, is attacked in Marca for his lack of defending and effort, with them citing an anonymous team-mate saying: “He doesn’t defend because he doesn’t want to.”

The report further adds that Bale is “absent, lost and identifying little with the cause,” and has made “little effort to integrate with the group 20 months after his arrival.”

Madrid have failed to win seven of their 15 games since the winter break and have lost their grip on the La Liga title, being replaced at the top by Barcelona last week.
