Saints look to secure future of Schneiderlin and Clyne

Southampton have offered new deals to midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin and full-back Nathaniel Clyne in a bid to fend off interest from rival Premier League clubs such as Arsenal and Manchester United.

Saints currently sit in seventh position in the league after an impressive first term under new manager Ronald Koeman, especially considering the amount of players they offloaded in the summer.

Liverpool splashed out a combined fee of £50m for the trio of Dejan Lovren, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert in last summer’s transfer window, whilst Luke Shaw was also sold to Manchester United for £27m.

In addition to losing their manager, Mauricio Pochettino, to Tottenham immediately subsequent to the end of the season, many tipped Southampton for relegation.

However, the club has enjoyed a prolonged spell in and around the top four for much of the season and are still strongly contesting for European qualification.

This move would suggest that the club is unwilling to part with any more of their prized assets for a second consecutive year, with both Clyne, 23, and Schneiderlin, 25, looking at receiving a weekly-wage of twice the amount they currently earn, should they put pen to paper.
