Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini hopes to remain at the club for the remainder of his current deal, despite reports he could be axed this summer.

Pellegrini is under heavy pressure at present as he tries to fight against Chelsea for the Premier League title and faces an uphill battle to progress in the Champions League, having lost the first leg of their last-16 clash with Barcelona 2-1 last month.

Former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has been heavily linked, whilst Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola and Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti are names also mentioned.

However, the 61-year-old remained calm on his future when sitting down with reporters on Friday afternoon, saying: “My future is very easy. I have a contract here until June 2016 and I will finish my contract here. If I can extend my contract, I will. When I sign a contract I always try to finish it.

“If I’m not happy, maybe you try to finish before, but I’m very happy.”

Pellegrini was then quizzed on a reported bust-up between club captain Vincent Kompany and Fernandinho earlier this month against Liverpool.

“Inside the dressing room, we didn’t have any problem.

“There was no bust up, and it is not important to talk about something that happened 20 years ago.”
