Former Chelsea defender David Luiz claims he and Diego Costa despite their on-field altercations during the Champions League tie with Paris Saint Germain.
Luiz and Costa clashed on numerous occasions during Wednesday evening’s second leg which saw the Ligue 1 side win on the away goal rule.
Despite the problems, the Brazilian defender held himself and scored a vital goal for PSG that would ultimately help them seal their progression to the quarter-final stage.
“It is normal,” he replied when the subject was raised. “Diego is an amazing player, a top guy and we have a lot of physical [battles]. We are friends and were together after the match. We know each other from before.”
Luiz then apologised for celebrating against his former club, admitting that the moment got the better of him.
“I respect everyone here and I was very happy here,” he added. “I said I wouldn’t celebrate if I scored but the emotion of the moment meant I couldn’t keep [to that].
“The fact I don’t score many goals means it is always special for me. I am happy with my team as we showed spirit and character.”
