Gary Cahill reflects on PSG defeat

Gary Cahill was left disappointed following Chelsea’s exit from yesterdays Champions League at the hands of PSG.

“Certainly hoped you know scoring so late on in the game I thought we would have enough to see it through but as football is you never quite know.

“Bitterly disappointed the result didn’t go our way and the performance didn’t go our way either so we know we can improve and no doubt look at it and see where we went wrong.” Cahill told the club.

Despite his well taken goal during the 90 minutes, it was a mix up from a corner with his central defensive partner John Terry which inexplicably allowed Thiago Silva to find space and header home the winning goal.

The normally reliable Chelsea backline was breached both times from corners in an uncharacteristic performance and subsequently cost their European status for another season.

Following disappointing first leg results for both Arsenal and Manchester City it seemed that the West London Club would hold the best chance of progression to the next round, however the risk of a quarter-final stage without any English representatives for only the third time in 20 year beckons.

With the French club advancing to the quarter final stage, Chelsea have been left with only the Premier League race to fight for and Mourinho maintains the title and the Capital One Cup would still be a successful season.
