Paris Saint Germain defender David Luiz has said that he is ‘sorry’ for celebrating his goal against Chelsea in the Champions League.

Luiz, who left the Blues in the summer for around £50m scored a vital goal as the Ligue 1 side beat Chelsea on the away goal rule in Wednesday night’s last-16 tie.

PSG fell behind to a Gary Cahill goal but Luiz’s header got them back in the game, before an extra time penalty from Eden Hazard gave the home side the advantage.

However, Luiz’s centre-back partner Thiago Silva headed in a superb goal to secure his side’s passage to the quarter-finals.

Speaking after the game to ESPN, Luiz apologised to Blues fans for celebrating his goal.

“I finished at Chelsea and then I got a great opportunity from PSG. They gave me a great opportunity to continue my career and I was very happy at Chelsea and won titles here but I finished and then I respect everyone,” ESPN quotes Luiz as saying.

“It was good for me to score. I said before I didn’t celebrate but there was so much emotion I cannot control and sorry because I celebrated because of the emotion, but I am so happy to qualify.”
