Paris Saint Germain are through to the Champions League quarter-finals after beating Chelsea on the away goal rule.

Laurent Blanc’s side started the game strongly, knowing that they needed a least one away goal to advance to the next stage of the Champions League.

Edinson Cavani had a good early chance for the French side but John Terry was on hand to block the Uruguayan striker.

However, PSG’s hopes of getting a result from the game were dented when Zlatan Ibrahimovic was sent off for studs up challenge on Oscar.

The incident prompted a number of incidents that saw the referee pull players from both sides aside.

The second half of the tie saw both sides create little, but the opening goal did eventually come when Gary Cahill hit the ball on the half-volley, leaving Salvatore Sirigu standing still.

However, the home side’s lead lasted five minutes as former Blues defender David Luiz powered a superb headed into the back of the net.

The game would then head into extra time and it was Chelsea who once again went in front after Thiago Silva handled when contesting Kurt Zouma in the box.

Eden Hazard stepped up to easily slot the ball home and put Chelsea in the driving seat.

Luiz attempted to add a second for PSG, but his 30-yard free kick was tipped over by Courtois.

Silva would then try to make immense for his earlier mistake as he sent a powerful effort towards goal but Thibaut Courtois produced a magical save, much to the delight of Stamford Bridge.

However, that delight would soon vanish as Silva headed in from the resulting corner and won the game for PSG.
