Van Gaal: I do NOT regret swapping Welbeck for Falcao

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has said that he does not regret selling Danny Welbeck and replacing him with Radamel Falcao.

England striker Welbeck was sold to Arsenal in the summer for a fee of £16m and replaced him with Colombian striker Radamel Falcao.

Granted the decision looked a good one at the time, but Falcao’s impact at Old Trafford has been minimal this season, prompting criticism from United’s fans and pundits close to the game.

Welbeck returned to Old Trafford on Monday night to haunt his former club, scoring the winning goal in a 2-1 win for the Gunners in the FA Cup quarter-final tie.

However, when asked if he regretted selling the striker, Van Gaal chose to praise Falcao and discuss his accomplishments this season.

“[Falcao] has scored four goals, had three or four assists and he stimulates the other players, so that is an aspect of the profession,” Van Gaal told reporters.

Welbeck has scored seven goals in 20 appearances for the Gunners this season.
