Liverpool are considering a move for Manchester United target William Carvalho as they seek a replacement for Steven Gerrard.

The Portuguese midfielder has been in typically good form for Sporting Lisbon this season and has further gained interest from a number of Premier League, La Liga and Serie A clubs.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has been extremely interested as he seeks to bolster his midfield options ahead of next season, whilst Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has had contact with the midfielder’s agent in the past.

However, it is understood that Liverpool are now ready to make a summer swoop as they seek to replace LA Galaxy bound Gerrard.

Carvalho has made no secret of his desire to play in the Premier League, speaking about his future in January.

“My dream is to play in England,” he told Record. “I know some clubs are interested but my agent, Jorge, is looking after it and I am relaxed.

“Now my mission is to work in Sporting and they will be in charge of any transfer and my future. That is very important.”
