Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Nemanja Matic injured his ankle during the celebrations of Chelsea’s League Cup win on Sunday at Wembley.

Matic was unable to play in the 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur, but he did get stripped to join his team-mate on the pitch and celebrate the title.

Despite, twisting his ankle in the celebrations, Mourinho has insisted that the midfielder will be available to face Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League last-16 second leg next Wednesday evening.

“Matic is injured and he got an injury celebrating the cup,” Mourinho told reporters.

“It’s not a big injury, but if today he was not suspended, he wouldn’t play.

“He twisted his ankle. On the pitch. He put on shinpads but he didn’t put the tape on. He will play against Paris. On Saturday, Sunday, he will train.”

Matic served the final game of his two-match suspension on Wednesday night as Chelsea beat West Ham United 1-0.
