Lille have opened talks with Manchester City over the future of Marcos Lopes, asking the English club to extend his loan deal for another season.

Despite seeing the Ligue 1 club struggle this season, City midfielder Lopes has impressed during his season-long loan spell and has attracted the interest of a number of European clubs.

Having moved to Etihad stadium in 2011 from Benfica, Lopes was loaned out by boss Manuel Pellegrini last summer in order to find first team football and he has become an important player under Rene Girard.

The 19-year-old will see his current contract with the reigning Premier League champions expire next summer, but Lille are keen to explore the possibility of keeping him through to 2016.

A second loan spell will only go through if City can tempt the youngster into signing a new deal, however, they may be forced to sell this summer.

Lopes had made 18 appearances in all competitions this season.
