Arsenal beat Queens Park Rangers 2-1 on Wednesday evening to keep their Champions League hopes in full swing.

Both sides started the game well and it was the home side who nearly took the lead through Bobby Zamora, but the former Tottenham Hotspur striker was unable to beat David Ospina withe his half-volley.

Moments later and Olivier Giroud would test Robert Green down the other end, but the former England international was equal to the Gunners striker.

Matt Phillips was next to attempt to break the deadlock but he found Ospina in superb form once more.

Alexis Sanchez, much criticised of late, was then involved as he found Kieran Gibbs, before the full-back crossed for Giroud, who blasted the ball into the back of the net.

The second half saw Green forced into two early saves as the Gunners looked to increase their lead.

And, they did so when Sanchez cut in the from the left hand side, before slotting the ball into the bottom corner.

The home side did not give up though and they remained confident in getting on the scoresheet right up until the end.

Prolific striker Charlie Austin did get them a goal back when he unleashed a fierce shot past Ospina, but it proved too little too later for the hosts.
