Manchester United target and Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman has dismissed reports that his career in football could be over.

The Dutch international missed the end of last season with Roma and therefore missed his country’s World Cup campaign due to cruciate ligament damage, however, he made his comeback in November of last year.

After seven appearances for the Italian side, talk began about a potential move to Old Trafford in January, but a further injury setback ended such reports.

Surgery to rectify the midfielder’s problems have gone well and he has denied reports that he may never play again.

“Contrary to reports in the media I am back in training and working hard on my comeback,” he posted on his official Twitter account.

“Please don’t believe people who have never seen me in their lives, but just follow the social pages of me and AS Roma where we will keep you updated on my progress.

“Just for the record, I’m right on schedule to be back when preseason starts.”
