Barcelona sporting director Carles Rexach has sensationally claimed that Real Madrid sold Angel Di Maria because he was ‘too ugly’ for the club.
Rexach has recently been installed as Barca’s new sporting director after the sacking of Andoni Zubizarreta earlier this year and he has already made himself prominent in Spanish press by claiming some supposed hidden truths at the club and rivals Real Madrid.
One of those is the reason for Madrid’s sale of Di Maria to Manchester United last summer, which Rexach claims was because he did not fit the image of the European champions.
“Perez looks at the world market and wants a team of Galacticos for everyone to admire,” Rexach told Regio7. “Vicente Del Bosque and Di Maria are too ugly for Real Madrid.”
Di Maria has struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford in recent games, despite his British transfer record fee of £59.7m.
