Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has said that his side must improve after their defeat to Chelsea in the League Cup final on Sunday.

Spurs lost the final at Wembley 2-0 after goals from John Terry and Diego Costa gave Jose Mourinho’s side a first of what he hopes could be a treble winning season.

Pochettino and his side have suffered a poor week on the other hand after losing to Fiorentina in the Europa League on Thursday too, and the former Espanyol boss has told his players they must improve to gain some success this season.

“It’s always difficult because in preparing for this final we played on Thursday in Florence,” PA quotes Pochettino as saying. “That is not an excuse, but it is the reality.

“But we have to improve. This was the first final for a lot of the players and we are proud.

“This is the first step for this group, because this group is strong, and we showed character and personality.”

Meanwhile, 21-year-old striker Harry Kane has revealed his upset at losing the final.

“It’s disappointing. We gave everything and left it all out there,” he told the club’s official website.

“It’s an experience and one we’ll learn from. We’ve come a long way. We’ve got a young team. We’ll learn and show character.”
