Paris Saint Germain defender Marquinhos has agreed a new deal with the club until 2020, ending talk of a summer move to Manchester United.

The centre-back joined the French champions from Italian side Roma in 2013 for a fee of £23.2m but he had struggled to find a regular starting place, mainly down to the form of fellow Brazilian defenders – Thiago Silva and David Luiz.

Talk of a summer exit since developed with Premier League side Man United keen to make a move, and his agent, Giuliano Bertolucci recently opened up about the possibility of him leaving Paris.

The Italian said: “Last summer the president of PSG [Nasser Al-Khelaifi] stated that Marquinhos was unsellable; we will see what he thinks next June,”

“So many [clubs] want him, including Manchester United. What is certain is that Marquinhos wants to become the best defender in the world.

However, the former Roma defender is now on the verge of signing a new and improved deal with the Ligue 1 club which will see him tied down until 2020.
