Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho praised his ‘fantastic’ players after they beat Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup final.

In truth, Sunday’s final could have swung either way after Spurs pressed the Premier League leaders, with Christian Eriksen hitting the woodwork with a free-kick in the first half.

Mourinho was quick to praise the performance of Mauricio Pochettino’s side and he made a point of that in his post-match press conference, before praising his players for their victory.

“I am really happy,” he told Sky Sports News. “I should start with Tottenham and Mauricio Pochettino because he is building a great team. They gave us a great match and I feel sorry for them.

“My players were fantastic. Finals are not for playing they are for winning. We did not have problems. They had a couple of chances but nothing else.

“We knew we would be dangerous on the counter and we played like we should play a final.”
