Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has told his side not to sit on the Europa League exit and bounce back in Sunday’s Premier League tie with Manchester City.

Rodgers’s men crashed out of the Europa League to Slaven Bilic’s Besiktas on Thursday night after Dejan Lovren missed the all important fifth penalty in the shoot-out.

Having lost a chance to qualify for the Champions League, Rodgers’ has told his players to forget the result and concentrate on trying to repeat their victory in Sunday’s corresponding fixture against City, which they won 3-2.

He told the press: “You can’t dwell on it. I’m very proud of the players and how they dealt with the atmosphere. It will help them in the future.

“We were reasonably solid in the game, we made one mistake and got punished. We have to move on quickly and be positive in our mindset and finish the season strongly.”

“It was an outstanding game [last year],” Rodgers added when speaking about last season’s fixture. “We could have been three or four up at half-time. We will relish it.”
