Besiktas boss Slaven Bilic says his side deserved to beat Liverpool in Thursday’s Europa League penalty shootout.

Tolgay Arslan’s second half strike put the Turkish level with Brendan Rodgers side on aggregate and headed the game to extra time, however, neither side could score.

Dejan Lovren stepped up for the Reds with the shootout 5-4 in the Turkish side’s favour, but he sent his penalty way over the bar, leaving Bilic and his team to celebrate their passage to the last-16.

“We deserved this win,” Bilic told NTVSpor.

“Before the penalties, I told my players, ‘There’s no pressure on you’. Seven of them wanted to take a penalty. I think that proved our confidence.”

Former Everton defender Bilic says he is expecting to draw Everton, who swept aside Young Boys 7-2 on aggregate.

“If our next opponent is Everton, I won’t be at all surprised. We have faced three English teams already, which is enough.”
